4. What information will Home Details share with potential candidates about my home?
We paint broad strokes and our discretion is never compromised. We never give out phone numbers, names, addresses, or any other private information without your explicit authorization. Even then, we prefer that you are the one to give out this information. The information we do share with candidates includes: Why you need a domestic employee; an overview of your fundamental family values (parenting philosophies, etc.); and information about the basic feel and atmosphere of your home.

5. Does Home Details have a well-developed database of applicants?
Our database is continually growing and changing. However, our focus is on building networks, not building a database. At any give time, our pool of candidates tends to be refined and specific. We are very selective about whom we add to our database and we are very proactive about networking and being a voice in our industry. We do not conduct mass interviews. Instead, we take the time to meet candidates, one-on-one, and our goal is to get to know the individuals we work with as individuals.

7. How long will it take to find the perfect candidate?
The average recruitment and hiring process takes between three and twelve weeks, depending on the profile of the candidate you are seeking and market avaiblity. However, hiring a domestic employee is a very personalized process. The more time you give yourself to "find the right match," the more successful the recruitment process will be. Our general process is a) define and create a job description; b) network, advertise and build a candidate pool; c) refine the candidate pool, screening candidates, organize and qualify information; d) present to client and consider questions that come up; e) assist interviewing and hiring process.

8. What sort of background checks does Home Details run on candidates and when?
Before a candidate meets with you in-person, a background check will be run through a third party investigator. The standard record check includes Social Security verification, State Misdemeanor/Felony Record Check and Sex Offender Record Check for each state a candidate has lived in. The recruitment process is a PROCESS and it can take on many twists and turns based on the candidate's background and the needs of the hiring household. Although we have a standard we follow, we also respond to the individual needs of our clients and provide additional resources as needed and requested.

9. When are references checked?
Because we spend a lot of time up front with a candidate getting to know them in both casual and professional conversations, the need to check references comes into play further down the hiring road. We do this because a) We want to get to know the candidate a bit more so we may have a "conversation" with their references about this individual's qualities and shortcomings and, b) We uphold and respect the time and privacy of all families. All too often past employers simply call after call from agencies and families about their former employee. This becomes a nuisance and the reference becomes reluctant to share information. We have found if we wait a bit and approach the "reference checking process" a little more carefully, we garner better and more accurate feedback. If you really have taken the time to get to know a candidate, you can pretty much tell if they are a "good or bad egg." References seldom tell you something alarming that you haven't already had a hunch about yourself. What references can tell you what kind of employee are you potentially hiring. How do they approach conflict, find solutions, solve problems, communicate, etc. If you know your candidate that allows you to "compare notes" with the reference and double check stories you have heard.
